Nikki Todd (CAN) def. Diana Garcia (MEX) 3-2 (11-7, 11-7, 4-11, 9-11, 11-7)

What an incredible game defined by long rallies and a great rivalry! Garcia was a true warrior, refusing to give up even after Nikki came out with a strong showing in games 1 and 2. Down 2-0, Garcia dug deep and clawed back, forcing the match to a deciding fifth game. Nikki came out strong in game 5, with her signature front-court style pulling her ahead to a 7-2 lead. Garcia, in true form, pushed back hard with some crafty shots, but ultimately with some consistent length and some well-timed boasts, Nikki was able to secure her first ever PSA title.

A special thank you to Summit Insulation for their continued generous support of our PSA W5 draw. And, of course, a heartfelt congratulations to the obvious crowd favourite, Canadian Nikki Todd, on her first ever PSA title. We could not have been happier to celebrate this with you, Nikki.

Ashley Davies (ENG) def. Chris Hanson (USA) 3-1 (11-8, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6)

Wow! An incredible showing of fitness and craft as both players fought tooth-and-nail to the finish. The match was defined by some long rallies, with both players attacking and defending well. Davies, coming in as the underdog, came out strong in the beginning of the match, patiently waiting for and creating opportunities to attack the front of the court. Davies was able to take the pace out of the rally well when needed, forcing Hanson back with some tight lobs. Davies’ punishing forehand volley secured him a win in games 1 and 2. Down 2-0, Hanson, much like Garcia in the women’s match, dug deep and stuck to the basics. He temporarily frustrated Davies and was able to pull out a win in a close game 3. Davies, determined now, came out strong in game 4.  His belief in himself and his game was evident as he relied on his signature style – long reach, speed and patience – to decisively pull ahead in game four and become the second ever men’s champion of the Simon Warder Memorial Tournament.

Many thanks to ANJ Industrial Fabricating for their continued support of the PSA M5 draw. And to Ashley, who always believed he had it in him to win this, congratulations and thank you for giving Sarnia a truly incredible showing of fitness and craft!
